A Comprehensive Look at the OpenShot Video Editor Chrome Extension

Web browsing has been taken to new heights with the introduction of the Chrome extension feature. Among these, one that stands out for its unique utility is the OpenShot Video Editor , a top Chrome extension that offers streamlined online video editing capabilities. However, despite its promising features, it has a low aggregate rating of 2.42 out of 5 in the Chrome extension store, bringing its efficacy into question. Join us as we unravel the reasons behind these user reviews and ratings.

Dissecting the OpenShot Chrome Extension: What it offers

The OpenShot Video Editor Chrome extension is a free and open-source video editor integrated with a file manager for better handling of video files. This browser tool offers an impressive list of features, including clip resizing, trimming, and cutting, unlimited tracks/layers, real-time video transition previews, and image overlays. It also supports numerous audio, video, and image formats courtesy of FFmpeg.

This isn't just a media player; it's a fully-fledged editor, offering various digital video effects, such as brightness adjustment, gamma, hue, greyscale, and chroma key. It also provides audio mixing and editing capabilities, all from within your browser. However, this tool is not without its shortcomings.

Uncovering the Discrepancies: User Reviews and Complaints

By analyzing various user reviews from the Chrome extension store, we can identify several factors contributing to the low rating of the OpenShot Video Editor extension. User Yasmine M points out that although file uploading is seamless, the editing process is complex and almost impossible without expert knowledge. A similar sentiment is echoed by user Python1144 , who experienced difficulties opening the app and faced an unreasonable rendering time.

User Ursula Steingart found the online version of OpenShot to be incredibly slow, taking hours to upload a short, 4-minute video. Negative feedback is also expressed by Gamer Girl , who mentions severe lag issues. However, user Evangelismo online provides a contrasting view, describing the app as good, and Stephen Sloan acknowledges the value of the video editor, despite its shortcomings.

Is the OpenShot Video Editor Extension Worth Your Time?

Given the mixed reviews, it's clear that the OpenShot Video Editor Chrome extension has potential but falls short in terms of performance and user-friendliness. While it is feature-rich and free to use, it seems it may not be the best Chrome extension for those seeking a smooth and easy-to-navigate editing experience.

In conclusion, your choice to download and use this Chrome extension should depend on your level of expertise and patience. If you are a beginner or need quick results, you may want to explore other top Chrome extensions for video editing in the Chrome extension store.

It looks older than my grandma. The last update is even years ago.

Uploading the file was okay, BUT I can't even edit this! WHAT even is this! Believe me, don't get it unless you're an expert because this is almost really bad.

Python1144

Can't even open it until restarting my chromebook. Even then it didn't bother to open properly. I had it on my pc up until it was time to export, when I hit export it told me to wait while it renders, fine by me, up until it estimates 80 days and I didn't see that little thing there for 3 days.

OpenShot is a great video editor. This version is out of date and doesn't work well. I would love to have a solid online instance of OpenShot, this isn't it.
